Often the décor of a home speaks a lot about its own. Often home décor shows the ethnicity of its owner. Often it is blended with religious beliefs of the homeowner. Persons of faith often have crosses, statues, or other religious knick knacks around the home, including the kitchen area.

Catholic home décor is often centered on statuary and the crucifix. There is no mistaking when you walk into a home owned by a practicing catholic. Often in the entries are statuary or small figurines that represent one of the saints. Many times it’s a statue of the Blessed Mother or the Sacred Heart of Jesus that also is chosen for entry ways. Over the door one may see a crucifix and in many cases it is a St. Benedict’s crucifix, which is very ornate and is believed to have great power over evil. This crucifix is what most people would see in an exorcism.  The Blessed mother statues often depict apparitions. They are simple in message and help recall the major players in the apparition. The most popular are Our Lady of Lourdes and our Lady of Fatima. This is a specialty item but has a lot of power, devotion and symbolism.

Keeping with Marian Home décor ideas a Wall Rosaries, ornate wall crosses and plaques also serve as a reminder throughout the home of a person of faith. It is natural to see a wall plaque of the Last Supper or to have other home decor items.   People of faith gravitate towards having these type things in their homes and it is a natural to them to display these type items.

Not only do most Catholics have indoor home décor items, they also have outdoor items as well. Garden statues are very common in a yard of a Catholic or Christian person. Catholics often have statues of Saints where Christians will have a cross of some sort in their yards. St. Francis is one of the most popular types of outdoor statue.  Often depicted with birds or small forest animals, he serves as a beacon for animals. There are birdbaths and fountains that show St. Francis in a variety of poses.

There are many other outdoor home décor items. They include Christmas yard art and Christmas decorations.  There are also lawn crosses and prayer benches to make a reflective area of a yard making a makeshift prayer garden.  These allow inventive ways to make places of worship in the home or in the yard.

It is easy to see how religious home décor allows the faithful a way to display their faith.  Visual reminders help keep the person on track with their faith.  They often great opportunity to discuss faith with visitors to the home who may not be believes or be of a different faith.  Many times it is stories that are depicted in one simple artist picture or rendering.  Statues also serve this purpose as well.  Many of these statues are tabletop statues that are usually no more than twelve inches tall.
